From a Parent’s Experience to an AI Tool: The Story Behind GetFinUp

In October, Carmen Tariba, educator and founder of the educational institution Callidus, appeared as a guest on the podcast “Ideas on the Table” by RTL (original title: Ideje na stolu).
In the conversation, she shared the personal and professional journey behind the creation of GetFinUp — a financial literacy program for parents and children that began at home and is now launching internationally.

We would like to thank Katarina Hrnjkaš for the invitation, thoughtful questions, and the warm, attentive way in which the conversation was guided.

A Parent’s Experience as the Starting Point

GetFinUp did not begin as a formal educational project.
It began with parenting.

Through conversations with our own children, we noticed confusion around basic money concepts, difficulties understanding spending decisions, and a lack of age-appropriate explanations. Along the way, we also became aware of our own mistakes as parents when first trying to talk about money.

Those everyday moments — questions, misunderstandings, trial and error — became the foundation of what would later grow into GetFinUp.

Educational Expertise as the Framework

More than 15 years of experience in education through Callidus provided the structure and methodology needed to transform this personal experience into a well-designed educational program.

Today, GetFinUp offers developed online courses and practical tools for parents, created to support families in teaching children the basics of money management in a clear, relatable, and applicable way.

An AI Assistant as Part of a Broader Solution

The podcast also mentioned an AI assistant for parents and children, which at the time of recording was still in its final testing phase.
For this reason, the wider publication of the podcast was intentionally delayed until the tool was fully ready.

Today, it is.

5 Whys Money Coach is a free AI assistant designed to support parent–child conversations about money. Using a simple “five whys” approach, it helps families understand why certain money habits form and how they can be reshaped together.
